Stutterheim team is one of the teams that have been busy supressing fires from December till now.

Even though the East part of the province is out of fire season some places had serious fires and some teams had to be in action to supress.

One of the Crew leaders  from Stutterheim team, Sisanda Ncumani, said in the previous years December used to be quite with no fires but 2015/2016 was different.

“The weather has been very hot in our area and fighting fires has been tough but the fitness test that we do most of the time kept us fit even in those fires,” explained Ncumani.

She said that her team does fitness test twice a week which helps when a team needs to be fighting fires in hot weather.

“If a person is not fit they cannot face the heat during fires so I am glad to say that this year we are going to do more when it comes to our fitness as we realise how helpful and safe it is for fire fighters to be physically and mentally fit,” Ncumani emphasised.

She advised all fire fighters to improve their fitness levels so that they are able to fight fires even in very high temperatures.
