Twenty-four year old Phuthi Maleke, from the Bloemfontein Team is an aspirant runner and a cricketer. He recently participated in the Inter State Bus Lines 21km Marathon.

Out of over 600 participants, Maleke secured the 18th position and won himself a silver medal. The young man ran alongside Assistant Regional Manager, Azola Bangani, and the two made a perfect team.

Maleke is also participating in the Macufe Marathon which takes place annually just ahead of the cultural festival.

He joined Working on Fire in 2012 and it has since helped him remain fit for his athletics career. “The fitness that we do on a weekly basis prepares me for some of my marathons. I do my 2.4 in eight minutes and 20 seconds,” he said.

Maleke is also a cricket enthusiast who plays for one of the local teams in Bloemfontein. He said he wishes that Working on Fire could open an athletic and cricket team so that they can represent the company whenever they participate in any of the tournaments.

“I see myself as one of the best runners in Free State and I will work hard to archieve that goal,” he added.
