Celebrating Disaster Reduction Day

25 Oct,2015WoF and Dept of Env Affairs

The International Day for Disaster Reduction is a day to celebrate how people and communities are reducing their exposure to disasters.

The theme for 2015 focussed on the use of traditional, indigenous and local knowledge to help reduce and plan against disasters.

The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) encourages every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.

WoF partnered with various provincial and local authorities and communities to also celebrate this important day. In the Eastern Cape, WoF participated in the National IDDR Celebrations which was hosted in the Chris Hani Municipality by COGTA Minister Pravin Gordhan.

During his visit to the WoF Exhibition stand, Minister Gordhan praised the participants for their excellent work and fitness that they possess to fight fires and thus reduce disasters.
