Community says “No more unwanted fires”
The Sheepmore community assured Working on Fire (WoF) that there would be no unwanted veld fires across their area.
They said that during the Provincial fire awareness campaign that took place at Sheepmore community hall on Friday (5 Jine2015), where the Community Fire awareness officer Mbuso Siwela was educating the community about the dangerous that could caused by unwanted veld fires .
Mbuso Siwela told the community that they must make sure that they do fire breaks around their homes and caution should be taken not to cause unwanted veld fires. Siwela requested the community to take ownership in reducing the number of unwanted veld fires.
“Unwanted veld fires can cause loss of life, damage property, destroy the environment and unnecessary loss of live stock, “he said.
The community needs to be aware of the dangers of unwanted veld fires and how to prevent it.
The community said that they did not have sufficient information to prevent themselves from unwanted veld fires.
“We are surrounded by the plantation that could be destroyed by our negligence. Now we will do fire breaks and teach kids not to play with fire,” said the community.
