Dreams can be found in unexpected places

She had a dream to help people and to become a Nurse but little did she know that her true calling was around the corner when she joined Working on Fire as a fire fighter in April 2012 at the Mbazwana base in KZN.

Simangele Mazibuko steadily developed in Working on Fire and today she is the Occupational Health and Safety Administrator in KZN. “After I matriculated Working on Fire was my first job and I was a fire fighter and in 2014

I was promoted to my current OHS portfolio”, she said.

“My goal was to become a nurse one day because I loved taking care of people but when I was starting out in WoF the work that we do soon became my passion and when the opportunity came around to be an OHS Administrator, I realised that I would still be helping people albeit in a different way”.

“We look after the wellbeing and safety of our participants in WoF. This is something that has grown deep within me and this will also be my new career path. I would encourage other fire fighters or fellow women to not look at the stipend they are getting paid but to save and research where they can get assistance in pursuing their career paths as I am now doing”.
