Driven with passion to join emergency services
Bontle Molefe a former firefighter and beauty queen at the Roodeplaat Team has recently exited Working on Fire to volunteer at the Maponya Ambulance Services in Hammanskraal to gain working experience in the medical emergency services field.
‘‘I was driven by passion and love into the rescue and emergency industry. I have always wanted to see myself as a successful individual in the future,’’ said Bontle.
She said she was able to utilise the stipend she got from WOF to feed, clothe and educate herself and her child. She also prepared herself for the job market.
‘‘I have done my drivers’ license code 10 and Basic Ambulance Assistant course while working as a fire fighter,’’ she said. Bontle hails from Hammanskraal but was based at the Roodeplaat Team.
‘‘I have learnt quite a lot from the programme. The most difficult part of my job as fire fighter was the fitness tests done weekly,” explained Bontle. When asked why she was exiting before getting a job offer, Bontle explained that she needed to make way for other youth so they can get skills in the programme.
