Ermelo Team participates in Emergency Open Day
“We have come together as a municipality to educate and learn about ways in which we can all implement measures to minimise disasters in our homes and schools,” said Councillor Eva Makhabane in her opening remarks at the annual Emergency Open Day hosted by the Victor Khanye Local Municipality.
Joining WOF were Mpumalanga’s Search and Rescue Team, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Thembisile Hani Fire and Rescue team and the Nkangala Disaster Management team.
On the day, the Mpumalanga Ermelo Team performed a short drama showcasing ways in which unwarranted fires could be avoided in schools and homes.
“In the drama, we relate ways in which fires could be avoided and also how to be on the lookout for hazardous materials that may trigger unnecessary fires,” says Base Communications Representative (BCR ) Slindile Ntshangase.
Mbuso Siwela, Community Fire Awareness Training Officer, expressed his appreciation of the team’s performance.
“It is an honour that Working on Fire was invited to such a remarkable day by the municipality. I am very impressed by the team because they were very engaging and this shows that they take pride in their work,” says Siwela.
