Ex-Firefighter praises fire awareness unit
Pusetso Noosi credits skills acquired as a fire awareness presenter for helping her to secure a sales representative job with one of the leading insurance companies in the country.
Noosi, who was a firefighter at the Wedela Team, has exited the programme and will soon be starting her new job.
“Part of my job is to convince clients to buy the products we are selling. I present the products to potential clients and engage with them. I am confident in public speaking because of the fire awareness unit’s work,” she says.
As a firefighter, she sometimes felt that doing fire awareness presentations seemed futile. But today the skills she learned doing fire awareness presentations are helping her make a living in a different capacity.
“I recognise the valuable skills the fire awareness unit offered me. They recently trained me as a Base Communications Representative and that added to my skills,” explained the former BCR for Wedela team. Pusetso said that planning presentations or meetings is central to her new job and she had also learned that while working for WOF.
“I remember how our Fire Awareness Training Officer used to stress the importance of planning. Now those valuable teachings are crucial in my current line of work,’’ she says.
