Fire awareness helps educate community about dangers of fires

9 Dec,2015Fire Awareness

Fire Awareness Training Officer, Elliot Nyathi, explained the fire awareness benefits to the community at an awareness campaign organized by the Nkangala District Municipality at the Watervaal Bovern Community Hall.

He said fire awareness helps the community better understand fire behavior, fire safety and the dangers of fires.

According to Nyathi, most children show an interest in fire, however, this is a developmental phase and children need to be taught about the dangers of playing with fire.

“In this situation where a child’s curiosity develops into playing with matches or lighters a parent’s intervention is required”, he said.

The Fire and Rescue Services, the Department of Social Development, South African Police Services, Department of Health and Eskom also delivered presentations to the estimated 150 community members who attended.
