As part of ensuring that communities in KwaZulu-Natal prepare themselves for the upcoming winter fire season, the Utrecht Team recently visited Groenvlei and Pokweni where they demonstrated to community members how to construct proper fire breaks that can protect their homes against runaway veldfires.

In previous years these communities had fire breaks but they were not wide enough and their properties were still at risk of being destroyed by veldfires.

The construction of fire breaks is an integral part of ensuring that communities are able to avert the risks of veldfires.
