Follow safety precautions when doing fuel load reduction

24 Apr,2016Fire Stories

On the 29th March the Utrecht Team received a call-out to assist in a fire that took place at the Balele Country Club. The club’s workers were doing a fuel load reduction without properly securing a safe barrier around the area they were burning and as result of this oversight the fire went out of control.

The Utrecht Crew Leader Type 1, Sbonele Mkhwanazi said, “The fire moved underground via roots and reappeared burning stacked logs on the property before becoming an uncontrollable fire and that is when we were called to come help.”

Sbonele urged landowners to follow safety measures in order to conduct a safe and effective fire break on their properties and when doing fuel load reduction.
