Limpopo Teams prepare landowners for the upcoming fire season
Working on Fire in Limpopo have been working around the clock preparing landowners for the upcoming winter fire season.
Firefighters across the province have started very early preparing farmers and landowners for the winter fire season by creating fire breaks and also reducing the fuel load on their properties. One of the teams that has been the busiest is the Leseding Team which has been working on projects around Groblersdal where they were doing grass slashing and creating fire breaks.
The WOF firefighters have been trained professionally to work very closely with the landowners to advise them on the requirement of the National Veld and Forestry Act and how to comply with it. Most of these teams are very busy during this month ensuring that they offer their services to the landowners in time to prepare for the 2016 fire season.
“We are the leading programme in integrated fire management and our services are needed across the province. If all the landowners can prepare for the fire season we will surely have less fires in the province”, said Maria Mokoena, the Assistant Project Leader for the Leseding Team in the Waterberg area.
