MD Message November 2015

1 Nov,2015MD Message

On the 25 November 2015 South Africa launched the 16 Day Campaign for No Violence Against Women and Children.

This year marks the 17th anniversary of this campaign, which aims to continue generating awareness on the protection of women and children with more focus on mobilising men and partnering with them to also assist in the fight against this scourge of violence on women and children.

The theme for this year is “Count Me In: Together Moving a Non Violent South Africa forward”. Unfortunately our own employees and beneficiaries are not immune from this violence. I urge all of you to participate in your local community activities, but most importantly also in the Social Development campaigns in your Teams.

Let us make this coming festive season a safe time for our loved ones.

The Western Cape had an early start to their fire season and up to 100 fire fighters and aircraft fought a multiple day fire in Simonstown recently. This all points to the fact that our fire fighters should be ready to prepare themselves for a busy fire season. We have received positive media coverage and feedback about our role in this fire.

Let me again remind our fire fighters to continue to be vigilant and safe on the fire line. With the country experiencing severe drought and expectant hot and dry weather conditions throughout the country we do expect that this could exacerbate the prevalence of wildfires. Our participants will continue to remain on high alert should they be needed to provide any fire suppression support in these instances.
