Parolees get a second chance

20 Parolees have received a second chance in life after having successfully completed the Basic Training in Fire Fighting at the Working on Fire Training Academy in Mbombela, Mpumalanga on the 18 September 2015.

This process to reintegrate ex-offenders into society has seen a partnership between the Working on Fire Training Academy and the Department of Correctional Services to rehabilitate offenders and recruiting them into the WoF programme.

Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Barbara Thomson, said at the graduation ceremony, that WoF is one of the best programmes in terms of service delivery and she was proud that the programme has provided this good opportunity for the parolees to change their lives.

“The Basic Training from which they graduated included amongst other induction courses on fire fighting, occupational health and safety, personal finance management and social wellbeing”, she said.

Correctional Services Deputy Minister, Thabang Makwetla, who also attended thanked the Deputy Minister Thomson and WoF for the opportunity provided for the parolees to get jobs that will help them reintegrate back into their communities.
