At the age of 47, Rust De Winter Team’s Type 1 Crew Leader, Jimmy Phatlane, has for the fourth consecutive time managed to obtain his Yellow Card recently during the Yellow Card Training Camp held at the Kadesh Lodge in the tiny town of Brits.

He has passed the 2,4 kilometer run in a record time of 11 minutes and 44 seconds. Jimmy who also owns a farm, said that he prepared well for the camp and does not understand why some of the younger firefighters couldn’t pass the physical fitness.

He said passing the fitness test is all about having a winning attitude and knowing you can do it.

‘‘I am using the fire management skills acquired from the programme on my farm. My livestock is safe because every year I do fire breaks around the farm. The skills from this training camp are valuable and vital to me as a farmer,’’ he said.

‘‘The physical test helps me to be in good health. Every week I pass my fitness tests and I’m in good shape,’’ said a jubilant Jimmy.
