High Altitude Team: Making a Difference
We are pleased to share with our latest WOF TV News Production. South Africa is a water scarce country where the demand for water is in excess of natural water availability in several river basins. Exacerbated by the spread of invasive alien plants which drain our stretched resource. Invasive alien plants absorb huge amounts of water and it’s imperative to remove such vegetation.
Over the years, the Department of Environmental Affairs’ High Altitude Teams have been making a difference by removing and treating alien invasive plants found in mountainous or inaccessible areas. The High Altitude Teams consist of 423 fully trained Rope Technicians and Crew Leaders across the country, of which 116 are females, clearing alien invasive species daily and because of them playing their part and contributing to our environment we have flowing rivers.
