The Winburg Team in the Free State hosted a soccer tournament in the area to encourage youngsters to keep themselves busy with sports.

About eight teams from in and around Winburg participated. They were from Virginia, Theunissen and Verkeerdevlei.

Samuel Molelengoane, a Crew Leader Type 2 said, “We organised the tournament because we noticed a lot of young people in the area have nothing to do and they end up using drugs. We wanted to show them the fun of sport.”

He said they were very grateful for the positive turnout of the community members. Molelengoane said he came up with the idea and presented it to the team which accepted. The winning team of the tournament walked away with the R5000 prize money, a trophy and medals.
