WoF at hand to launch World Forestry Congress
The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana and his Deputy Minister, Bheki Cele, launched the upcoming World Forestry Congress to the media.
The Congress is to be held in Durban from 11 to 17 September.
Former Working on Fire Managing Director, Trevor Abrahams, who is the Secretary General of the XIV World Forestry Congress outlined the importance of hosting the congress and logistic thereof.
‘‘The preparation of the forestry congress to be held in South Africa is on track and participation is expected to be held high at government levels,’’ said Trevor.
Minister Zokwana emphasized that youth participation during the forestry congress is a must. In pointing at the fire fighters who were present at the media launch at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria, Minister Zokwana said, “We will include the youth, our future in this congress”.
When asked about challenges facing the forestry industry during the press conference, Minister Zokwana said fires are a serious threat to the success of the sector. The event was attended by diplomats, forestry role players, and private companies amongst others.
