WoF drivers ready for the Summer Fire Season

During 5 to 9 October 2015, 65 Working on Fire (WoF) drivers participated in a Yellow Card Driver Refresher Course to ensure the readiness of all drivers for the coming 2015/2016 Summer Fire Season.

The objective of the training course, hosted at the Swellendam Caravan Park by WoF and The Action Saver Group (ASG), is to ensure that all drivers are aware of the laws of the road, vehicle and equipment capabilities, fire fighting techniques, communication and safety procedures when transporting participants to and from the fire line.

Kevin Hopewell the Heli Support Vehicle Driver says, “in the training we learnt the of travelling safely with our teams. It is our main priority to ensure that our drivers are trained, refreshed and equipped with knowledge and personal values to carry our teams forth in the future. This is the first training course of its size and we believe it has made a big change in ensuring the safety of our people and the environment. Congratulations to all drivers who passed the training course” – Amor Adlem, Transport Coordinator for Working on Fire.

Importance of following the correct vehicle administration, communication, safety and vehicle checking procedures to ensure that we as drivers are fully equipped and ready to tackle the coming fire season with confidence as well as ensuring minimal accidents, injuries and enhancing the safety of the public, property and wildlife we strive to protect.”

59 Drivers from across the Province have passed their Yellow Card and are fully equipped to tackle this year’s Summer Fire Season. Good Luck to all six drivers who are still in their probation period to become WoF drivers.
