Pulane Kompi, a Stock Controller in the Free State province started from the bottom as a firefighter.

She was recruited in 2011 at the Winburg base where she served her firefighting duties for a year. “In 2012 I was transferred to the provincial office to assist with administration duties largely due to my computer skills. Later that same year I was promoted to my current position”, she said.

Her job includes monthly stock take of the province, receiving stock packing and distributing to bases as well as the regional offices. This passionate young woman is currently sharpening her skills by studying at the Motheo FET college.

Asked about Women’s Month, she said what comes to her mind is Diversity, Equality and Leadership. “This is the time to recognize women’s rights and gender equality. I want to say to all women out there to love, appreciate and respect themselves. Remember only God can control your life.”

She said Working on Fire changed a very crucial part of her life which is her career. “I have studied something completely different to what I am currently doing and I thorough I enjoy my job”.
