Stepping

Stone to

Social & Economic Empowerment

Working On Fire is a stepping stone to social and economic empowerment for hundreds of young people across South Africa. The programme encourages and assists its participants to enter the formal employment sector or pursue entrepreneurship dreams. Armed with experience and developmental training, our participants are well-equipped and confident to take the step forward towards realising their hopes for a better future.

17 Sectors

WOF Alumni are now employed across more than 17 sectors

The world is their oyster – especially since their skills and training include more than firefighting and integrated fire management.

Working On Fire also exposes its participants to innovative construction and management through its various projects.

Our former firefighters – our alumni – are now employed across more than 17 sectors – including public health, mining, construction, government and environment and conservation.

10% of our alumni are in WOF’s management.

Our firefighters remain part of the Working On Fire family, well after they have left us.

Through the Working On Fire Alumni Programme, we are able to engage former participants who share their inspiring stories of growth and development after they have left us.

Working On Fire is proud to be recognised as one of the South African government’s most successful Expanded Public Works Programmes under the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
