What we do

Working on fire is an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) aimed at providing work opportunities to young men and women.

The Forestry Support Programme (FSP) was initiated by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment and the Working on Fire Programme through the Expanded Public Works Programme and launched on 01 December 2019 to maintain, upgrade, and improve 19 government plantations in five provinces.

GOVERNMENT

PLANTATIONS IN FIVE PROVINCES

The Forestry Support Programme is implemented in five provinces and managed by the following Fire Protection Associations and private contractor in collaboration with FSP Management and support from WOF staff:

  • Southern Cape FPA
  • Cape Peninsula FPA
  • Lowveld Escarpment FPA
  • Eastern Cape Umbrella FPA

Vision
To restore and protect Government plantations and infrastructure against fire and damage, by employing people from surrounding communities to minimize third party claims.

Objectives
To upgrade and improve DEFF plantations and to ensure compliance with the National Veld and Forest Fire Act of 1998 (NVFFA).
To protect and restore Government plantation assets (Buildings, trees, fire breaks and roads).
To reduce fire damage and spread (claims).
To create employment from surrounding communities (social-economic enhancement).
