There has been a not so subtle shift in the discourse on wildfires, from fires as the problem, to human behaviour as the source of wildfires becoming problematic.
This includes the effects of human created climate change, changes in land use, urban encroachment into former wilderness areas and of course the principal source of fire ignitions.
This approach hence directs interventions more at human behaviour than simply focusing on suppression.
Prevention, including education and fuel load reduction, is the key to managing the anticipated growth in disaster wildland fires.
